Well, we are here. I know it has been quite a long time since my last blog, but I guess we have just been exceptionally busy lately. My mom just left yesterday after staying with us for the long weekend. We had a really great time, but didn't take any pictures. I wouldn't allow it right now. I look pudgy and squishy plus my face just looks tired all the time. None of my clothes fit the way they usually do. I know it is all part of it and that it is silly of me, but I just did not want to be in pictures. During her visit we went to Disney all day Saturday and then Sea World (which was shoulder to shoulder PACKED) on Monday, Memorial Day. I hadn't been to Sea World since I was in high school, and I loved it! They have the greatest shows. Florida teachers get in for free, and my mom got a year pass for the price of a day pass, so we plan on going back when my parents visit in the fall. As always, Colin and I had a great time while she was here!
Over the past week or so, Colin has been slaving away replacing all of the trim in our house. It turned out to be a much bigger project than we (he) had initially anticipated. BUT...it turned out so super! It makes a big difference, and I love it. The trim that we chose is much taller than we had before. I think it is 5.5 inches tall. It looks so
nice, and it has a much cleaner look. He also did the "casing" around all of the door openings and did some block details on the corners of the doors. He still has a little more work to do on it this weekend. He needs to caulk and fill in the nail holes, which are things I can actually help out doing. But I'm learning that I don't think he really wants my actual help. He just wants me to follow him around while he works and watch him and talk to him. Once that is finished, all he needs to do is paint over the nail hole areas and caulk areas, and it will be done!
Poor little Roi had been shaking his head a lot recently. We looked at his ears, and one of them was bright red, so we took him to the vet this week. Turns out he has an ear infection. He is on medicine for that, so hopefully it will clear up soon! This is a picture Colin sent me at work while they were waiting for the vet to come in. Needless to say, he doesn't enjoy visiting the vet's office! He also hides under our bed or under our kitchen table each time he sees us carrying the ear drops. It takes both of us to put them in his ears. Colin holds him down while I apply them.
Next week will be my last week of school! I've never had to teach in June before, and most all other schools got out last week...wah wah! This year's class has been my best yet, so I will miss having them. But I'm super excited to be moving back down to the primary grades. I'll be teaching 2nd grade with another teacher. We will team teach, which means we'll have a group of 30 kids instead of 18. I would prefer to have my own classroom, but I was asked to do this for one more year. It is because of limited space at my school and not enough funding for another portable. So they put 2 teachers in one room and add more students. Next year he said that I should have my own second grade classroom. To look on the bright side, this is a good year for me to have a co-teacher because I will be off for several weeks on maternity leave. I won't have to worry about making sub plans and things of that nature. So, I'm really looking forward to next school year. It should be great!
Tomorrow Colin and I are going to see the SATC movie. It is the first night that it is showing, and it's going to be great! All along Kelly, Katrina, Jessica, and I had planned to wait to see it together no matter what. We always used to watch the shows together, and we were so sad when we season 6 ended. We felt like we knew all of the characters personally! Once a week or so one of us would host a "martini night" and we would go on a SATC watching frenzy. It was so much fun. But when we are in Lafayette this summer, Kelly will be on her honeymoon and Jessica lives in Ohio, so it is really hard for us to find a time when we can all go see it. So I'm dragging my husband out (not really!! He secretively wants to see it!) tomorrow for a date to the movies, and I can NOT wait!
We officially made our travel plans for our trip to the midwest next month. I know I probably mentioned that previously, saying that we were driving up. But with gas prices going out of control, it was cheaper for us to just fly and find a dog sitter for Roi. So...we will be flying from Orlando to Indy on June 26th. Shortly thereafter we will head to Michigan for the rehearsal on Friday and the wedding on Saturday. We are leaving Michigan on Sunday and going to Chicago until July 3rd. We will probably leave late in the day on July 3rd to go to Lafayette until we fly out on July 8th. We want to see as many friends and family as possible, so mark your calendars!
Okay one last thing. I know the length of this post is getting out of hand. Plus I'm writing about things that most of the readers here probably don't care about (rambling!). Anyway, last night several of the girl neighbors on our cul-de-sac went to this place called
Let's Eat. It was such a fun time. They have stations set up with recipes and all the ingredients, plus the vegetables are already chopped and the measuring cups are right in the bowl with the ingredient. I signed up to make 8 different meals. I split them all in half since it is just Colin and I eating at our house. So I ended up coming home with 16 meals that I made. It ended up being cheaper than if I had gone and bought the ingredients to make it all at the grocery. And the food they had was good quality food. I ended up coming home with chicken quesadillas, hoison steak, pineapple pork skewers, chicken curry, pasta primavera, chicken italiano, quiche, and lemon chicken. It's all in the freezer in our garage. Tomorrow we are going to try out the quesadillas. We are planning on going back next month too because they change the meals each month. Fun stuff!
